The Healthier Wine Challenge

Albero 2006 Tempranillo Barrica
(Organic)

For years, I've been a big fan of Spanish red wines. I find them to be rich and flavorful in ways uniquely their own. I don't know if it's the grape varieties or the growing conditions, but whatever it is, they prove to please the palate!

Last week, we made a "Garden Pasta" dinner. All of the ingredients were organic, including the heirloom tomatoes, basil and oregano that we picked out of our own garden. The only thing missing, was a good wine. So I went off to Trader Joes, in quest of an organic red and I found one-

Albero 2006 Tempranillo Barrica.

  • The color was a deep ruby red.

  • The nose was light with a sense of alcohol and dry sweet fruit.

  • On the palate, the wine grew full and tasty with tart cherry notes.

  • The finish was light with low tannins.

  • An overall well- balanced wine.

After the wine had time to breathe, it became softer and more complex. Overall, I found this organic Tempranillo quite tasty with food and without and at only $6.00 a bottle, It's a great buy as well! I rate this wine at 86 points.
